Thunderstone Gateway
Thunderstone has finally made its way to iOS, through the. This doesn’t seem to be an app developed to be for iOS purely, but rather linked to the existing facebook platform (thus the Gateway). Plus: if you’ve already been playing on Thunderstone facebook, your progress remains; con: the game seems to lack autonomy…
Expect a full review this Wednesday.
Dominion MULITPASS
Yes… you will remember earlier this year that a free-to-play version of Dominion made it into the app store, which was not the official version. The explanation being that this developer had permission to release Dominion (unofficial) on the condition that it both be free and removed when the official app comes out; apparently all the delays were due to preparations for iOS 6. It will be a multi-platform game, allowing people of all platforms to engage:
(AND THE INTERNET GOES WILD!)
Except it’s not… Go to the website www.goko.com and you’ll find this:
Hello Everyone
As you probably know by now, the first 48 hours of Goko’s public life didn’t go well.
As we moved out of beta and into the live world, we learned that we had problems
with our backend and weren’t able to scale fast enough to support the load.
As a result, we experienced numerous problems and created a really bad experience
for the fans trying to access our games or even get on our website. We sincerely apologize to the fans trying to play our games and to the broader tech
and HTML5 communities that showed so much support for our vision at launch.
We’ve made the decision to roll our games and game site back into beta for testing.
We will go live again when it’s ready. We’d love to say that will happen tomorrow or
next week, but that’s not the right way to proceed. If you want to help us test the games before they go live again, or test future games
from Goko, please click here to become a beta tester. Everyone will eventually get in
and we’ll add people as quickly as we can.Sincerely,
The Goko Team
Also note… Race for the Galaxy BETA TESTING at the bottom…
Lost Cities: Imminent
Coding Monkeys are affirming that Lost Cities for iOS will come out some time this week (projected release date being the 23rd of August). This is a quality developer and a high popularly and well-rated game (Watch this Space). Yes it’s a Kniza game, but considering that it’s coming from the developers of the Carcassonne app, I’m willing suspend my skepticism to inspect it (also I have played Lost Cities and it feels like a legitimate game instead of a hack puzzle game).
And no… don’t be fooled; it’s not The Lost City by Maple Fire Games (which I think is just one of the many spawn of the more recent genre of hidden object games).
Cities and Knights: Imminent
I personally am the most excited about this release. It is an expansion for Settlers of Catan, known as Cities of Knights. For those playing at home, we’ve been waiting on this one since January. USM announced that it is finally submitted to the app store, so expect to see it some time this week.
Feature List of Catan 3.0:
- Cities and Knights LITE available in basic game, full version available as IAP
- iPad retina graphics (Catan HD)
- Improved almanac layout
- Extended tutorial
- Numerous smaller tweaks and optimizations [sic]
Spectromancer: Imminent
The developers known as Apus Software and Three Donkeys have submitted their app to the store last week, meaning it should also be coming out this week (source: their forums).
Immortal Heroes: Announcement
@Gretyl from Iowa made an announcement that Gary Games the latest expansion to Ascension: “Immortal Heroes” should make it’s way to iOS platforms in about 3 – 5 Months.
Status: Rumour mill, somewhat credible source!
Stone Age: Announcement
Hans im Gluck has indicated that there will be an implementation of Stone Age for the iOS. No further details exist regarding developer, time frame, or all the stuff we hunger for (inquiring minds wish to know!)
Agricola: Announcement
If you checkout playdek’s website, you’ll note that Agricola has been postponed until Winter… Curses!

Spectromancer was released one week ago, excellent ratings on the appstore so far. Looking forward to a proper review!
Unbielevable......catan version 3.0 and online still spot present....do They.know that boardgames are meant to be played online with other humans?..and then...i Have 2 iPad i bought cities and knights expansion on one iPad and he asks me to pay it once again for the other iPad ...........
@Henry Having the same problem, two IPads, phone and IPod and both Seafarers and Cities and Knights are wanting me to re-purchase The expansions. It mutes on the first page of the app store that if you rebuy it it will not charge you twice so I have re-purchased C&K, we shall see ...
@ollismark Please let me know if it works,..thanks
@Henry No sadly it did not, I got charged twice and when I tried to report the problem to the ITunes store it fails to connect. I will comment under the review section but still want to give it a good rating as it is an excellent expansion. We shall see if that makes any difference.
Disappointing - classic USM. Also, when I play cities and knights 4 player, the cities and knights stuff isnt there: that is to say, you can build knights, but theres no pirate! I was playing for 30 minutes thinking how odd it was that we had a huge army yet no one had attacked yet... Buggy AS HELL.

@James Bruce
Hi James,
just tried and finished a C&K match but everything seemed to work fine:
pirates and the other stuff as well. Have you tried the LITE version or the complete one?
Lost cities is iPhone only?
So sad two of my favorite game licenses in RFTG and Dominion were sold to a company who are exploiting them solely as a means to promote their backend technology. Which can't even get one game right yet. Thunderstone is equally as sad.
I like Lost Cities, but can't help but think Coding Monkey's talents are wasted on that game when they could probably do something like Thunderstone so much better. Just like Playdek was wasted on Food Fight. Well, bring on another Ascension expansion, and Coding Monkey's did hint they plan on another Carcassonne expansion by the end of the year.
